We left and I didn’t think about it much more than that. I got up and stood outside for 15 minutes while my girlfriend got the check. I became sweaty, nauseous, and it was hard to breathe. We had gone out to our favorite place to eat one afternoon and I distinctly remember being halfway through my 2nd taco when I got this overwhelming fear and panic. We had already decided before this that we were going to move and that date was coming up. A few weeks go by and to be honest it was something we would talk about but it didn’t have an effect on us or make either of us “scared”. I believe 1 person died and 4/5 were injured. Technically because of the amount of people that were injured it was considered a mass shooting. The next morning we found some articles about what had happened. Our bodies still in shock to what had occurred. We got back to the car and just drove home in silence. Ha, well I found out real quick what a little bitch I am lol. At 6’3 230 I’ve never worried about confrontation. Now my pride and arrogance in the past when daydreaming about situations like this of “This is what I would do” was so completely different when put into that situation. Fortunately I wasn’t struck but my body had gone into a state of panic and shock. After we found a place in between a couple buildings I felt my chest expecting to feel the warmth of my own blood. The adrenaline had made me focus on getting us to a safe place. I thought I was hit but to scared to look down. In this moment my chest felt a pain I’ve never experienced before. Cars blowing through stop signs and red lights. There was screaming and people running in every direction. I actually threw her around a corner so hard her shoes came off. I grabbed my girlfriends hand and we started sprinting through a nearby alley. When I snapped out of the trance we went into full flight or flight mode. During the shots I wasn’t able to associate what was happening due to being really drunk and it took a good 10 seconds to understand what was going on. In total there we’re over 50 shots fired and 2 guns were recovered by police. We got about 15 feet past them when multiple gunshots went off. After a night of drinking (which I had not drank in about 6/7 years) my girlfriend and I left our friends and we’re making our way to our car when we walked pass a group of people that were arguing. About 8 months ago I was in my hometown and went to a concert followed by a bar. This might be long but I’ll start at the beginning.

Finally, you need to configure the browser to be able to send HTTP requests through the app without problems. The second thing you are required to do is to configure your browser to use the app’s proxy listener as its HTTP proxy server. You should see an entry in the table with the Running check box ticked. Simply navigate to the Proxy tab and take a look in the Proxy Listeners section. The first thing you need to do is to confirm that the app’s proxy listener is active. This way, if you want to perform any kind of testing, you need to configure the browser to work with it. Romanian archaeology did not benefit from a specific legislation from its beginning, and until January 2000, as presented by Dorel Micle, even though Romania has been a member of the European Convention concerning archaeological heritage (signed at La Valetta on 16 January 1992) ever since 1997, it was only in 2000 that the government enacted the first law concerning the protection of archaeological heritage. The negative impact of social non-involvement in the protection of archaeological sites has had an impact in multiple countries. Unfortunately, in many areas around the world, archaeological heritage has been affected by both natural hazards and anthropic destruction. One of the most important challenges related to the preservation of cultural and historical heritage is associated with the rapid decay of exterior monuments due to environmental deterioration, as well as vandal attacks. Finally, the resulting 3D reconstruction has been integrated within virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) applications, as well as computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) based on additive manufacturing to facilitate the dissemination of the results. The proposed framework addresses problems that are associated with 3D reconstruction processes, such as self-intersections, non-manifold geometry, 3D model topology, and file format interoperability. The output of the framework includes a proposed digital reconstruction of the aurochs fragmented Dacian embossed disk, as well as the ornaments’ stencils database. The case study makes use of the 3D dataset acquired, using a structured light scanner to extract vector displacement maps, which are then applied to the 3D computer-aided design (CAD) model. The proposed framework has been applied for the richly adorned ornaments of the fragmented Dacian embossed disk from Piatra Roșie. The aim of this research paper is to present a framework that enables an accurate digital reconstruction of fragmented or damaged artefacts using ornament stencils obtained from 3D scan data. In the case of fragmented artefacts, the digitization process represents an essential prerequisite for facilitating an accurate 3D reconstruction. To ensure that an object is preserved against environmental deterioration, vandal attacks, and accidents, modern Cultural Heritage documentation involves 3D scanning technologies. The most peculiar characteristic of a cultural heritage is represented by its uniqueness. New PS5, PS4 Games This Week (17th April to 23rd April) Mastering all of his abilities takes time and effort, but is ultimately an enjoyable experience - as is the case with any truly pleasurable 2D platforming title. Again - as is the case with the occasionally opaque objectives - you’ll learn to adapt to this arrangement, but it’s a barrier to entry which could potentially make it difficult for newcomers to warm to the game.Īside from the floaty jumping, Tomba does everything else with ease he clings to surfaces like a prehistoric acrobat and can dispatch enemy pigs by leaping on their backs and then hurling them in the desired direction. Tomba himself is a responsive fellow, but his jumps are unnervingly floaty, even by 16-bit platforming standards. As you begin to understand how Tomba! is stitched together this becomes less of a problem, but inside the first few hours you’ll hit more than a few frustrating dead ends.Īnother minor concern is the unruly manner in which our bare-chested protagonist controls. It’s often too easy to get lost or disorientated, and the vague mission objectives mean you often walk right past something which requires your immediate attention. However, the constant urge to strike out and discover something new also leads to one of the game’s biggest faults: lack of direction. This lack of traditional structure engenders an intense focus on exploration, and this adds immeasurably to the game’s core appeal. Missions are doled out as you go, requiring you to perform a variety of tasks such as locating items or characters. There are no levels as such, but instead you move through one massive, 2.5D over-world and often have to backtrack to push the game forward. Released on the 32-bit PlayStation at a time when 2D was rapidly going out of fashion, the game’s old-school ethos is perhaps what caused it to post less-than-impressive commercial results, but ironically the very same oddball appearance should ensure that it finds an audience on PSN - Tomba! showcases the kind of off-the-wall wackiness that today’s generation of iOS developers would die for.Īlthough the platforming action is relatively straightforward, Tomba! has a somewhat free-form structure which feels just as unique as it did back in ‘98. The creation of Ghouls ‘n Ghosts designer Tokuro Fujiwara, Tomba! is a 2.5D platformer with a pink-haired caveboy as its lead character. MonkeyPaw Games has kindly purchased the rights to Tomba! and unleashed it onto the PlayStation Network, allowing an entire generation to find out why this title commands such a high fee on eBay. Although this is a boon for eagle-eyed retro hoarders, it means that very few people possess deep enough pockets to appreciate the game’s finer qualities - until now, that is. Released in the West in 1998 to widespread critical acclaim but dismal sales (the perfect situation for future rarity), copies of the game now change hands for large amounts of money on the modern-day second-hand market. Tomba! ( Tombi! in Europe and Ore! Tomba in its native Japan) is one such example of this process. Originally published on Monday, 12th November 2012: While many retro enthusiasts will grumble endlessly about how digital downloads are going to mark the end of video game collecting as we know it, there’s one massive plus point that they seem to conveniently ignore: by removing the reliance on physical media, it means that more people can experience the classics of yesteryear. I started to create within and expand my work, but not thinking that I am expanding Haida art.”ĭavidson’s individual, yet holistic approach to his work was vividly captured in his 2014 solo exhibition at the Seattle Art Museum titled “Abstract Impulse.” Largely comprised of works created since 2005 and exploring abstraction and formalism, the exhibition investigated, dissected, and re-assembled the stylistic elements of Haida art. Then I started to experiment within the principles of the art, and I started to think about the art never reaching a peak, but artists reaching a level of excellence. “Once I learned the principles, once I learned the standard, I started to think how we are just recycling the old masters. “I started to think of it as a vocabulary, like the alphabet,” he says. “What I thought were very limited creations, the more I learned about it, it paralleled with all the other fine art of the world.”Įmblematic of this artistic approach, Davidson’s 1983 piece, Every Year the Salmon Come Back (now part of the National Gallery of Canada collection) was the work that demonstrated he was developing a visual language within the Haida tradition that was completely his own. “In order for me to converse in Haida art or Northwest Coast art, I needed to understand the standard,” he explains. His own exploration of Haida art became about confirming its rightful place within the context of contemporary art practice: critical, personal, and engaged. Photography by Kamil Bialous for MONTECRISTO Magazine. “When I first came to Vancouver there were only four shops that sold native art-‘art curios,’ ‘cabinet crafts,’ that’s what they were called.” “It took a few years before accepted as fine art,” he recalls. In Vancouver at that time, Haida art, and Indigenous art more generally, was not considered on par with Western artistic styles. At the time of the totem’s raising, he had already begun studying at the Vancouver School of Art (now Emily Carr University of Art + Design) and was being mentored by Bill Reid in Haida sculpture and design. He describes this moment as the major turning point in his career as an artist. But it was the catalyst,” he notes, soft-spoken and pensive. I had no idea that the art was so important. “Before the totem pole was raised we had no idea of their knowledge. “When I erected the totem pole in 1969, it opened the door for the elders to pass the incredible knowledge that was muted,” Davidson says, taking a sip of his coffee. “I did hear from one person that for a certain show it was too traditional, and then from the same person it was too contemporary,” he adds, laughing.ĭavidson marks the first time he saw the power of art in the Haida community in 1969, when he and his family raised the first totem in Massett since the 1880s. “I try not to focus on whether traditional or not,” Davidson says over an early morning coffee in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant. Recognized as a distinctly innovative artist, Davidson works across a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, drawing, and masks, and can take significant credit for asserting Haida presence within contemporary art practices, eschewing forced narratives from colonialism, and the degradation of historical carvings as tourist curios. He comes from a long lineage of artists, the most notable of whom was his great-grandfather, turn-of-the-century artist Charles Edenshaw. Davidson, whose Haida name is Guud San Glans (Eagle of the Dawn) was born in Alaska in 1946, and moved with his family to Old Massett on Haida Gwaii in 1947. For contemporary artist Robert Davidson, the art is the catalyst: how it is perceived, what it provokes, and what it can teach. Eric Reuss and Elizabeth Hargrave helped shift the focus of board games away from conquest-based war games to more collaborative games. “I believe you are seeing a shift in board games to more themes related to nurturing and safeguarding nature and natural processes,” Montrose says.īoard game designer Calvin Wong Tze Loon 黃子倫 (you might recognize him from the movie Crazy Rich Asians) tells Inverse innovative game designers like R. These newer games either channel explicit anti-colonial themes or provide gameplay mechanics that focus on building up ecosystems and protecting the environment - not plundering it for world domination. But these different landscapes are in the gameworld nothing more than raw materials waiting to be extracted,” Alf Seegert, designer of the board game Haven and a professor at the University of Utah, tells Inverse.īut in recent years, some designers have begun charting a different course - away from colonialism and economic games, and toward issues like climate change and t he biodiversity crisis. “In The Settlers of Catan, set on a newly colonized island, hexagons represent different kinds of terrain. Examples of these games are Carcassonne, Puerto Rico, and Catan. Many board games - typically known as “ Eurogames” - prioritize resource extraction for the player’s gain, which directly mirrors colonial powers that sought to conquer lands and people for economic gain and world domination. “It's expected that board games have soaked up some of the colonial attitudes from the cultures and people that create them,” John Brieger, a design researcher who runs the Brieger Creative studio, tells Inverse. What’s the biggest problem with board games? Welcome to FUTURE EARTH, where Inverse forecasts 100 years of possibilities, challenges, and who will lead the way. In doing so, they are signaling that the future of Earth need not be a roll of the dice. A hundred years from now, the themes of these games could present a cruel irony if they’re still being played in a resource-strapped world.īut a wave of new games is pushing forward ideas about the objective of board games while still keeping them fun. Some of our favorite board games, ranging from Catan (previously known as The Settlers of Catan) to Risk, are designed around extracting resources from the Earth, through any means necessary. We’re not talking about increasing competition from video games or social media, but actual sustainability. It’s no secret that board games have a sustainability problem. The prevalence of SLE in Africa and Asia is believed to be much lower than in Western nations however, in industrialized Western countries, people of African and Asian descent are two to four times more likely to develop SLE than are people of European descent. It is most common in younger women, peaking during the childbearing years however, 20 percent of SLE cases occur in people over age 50.įor unknown reasons, in industrialized Western countries SLE has become 10 times more common over the past 50 years. Females develop SLE about nine times more often than males. Diagnosis may be delayed for years, and the condition may never be diagnosed in some affected individuals. The exact prevalence is difficult to determine because many of the signs and symptoms of SLE resemble those of other disorders. SLE has been estimated to affect between 322,000 and 1.5 million people in the United States. Overall, SLE gradually gets worse over time, and damage to the major organs of the body can be life-threatening. People with SLE have episodes in which the condition gets worse (exacerbations) and other times when it gets better (remissions). Anxiety and depression are also common in SLE. The inflammation characteristic of SLE can also damage the nervous system, and may result in abnormal sensation and weakness in the limbs (peripheral neuropathy) seizures stroke and difficulty processing, learning, and remembering information (cognitive impairment). Heart disease caused by fatty buildup in the blood vessels ( atherosclerosis ), which is very common in the general population, is even more common in people with SLE. Heart problems may also occur in SLE, including inflammation of the sac-like membrane around the heart (pericarditis) and abnormalities of the heart valves, which control blood flow in the heart. Affected individuals may also have hair loss (alopecia) and open sores (ulcerations) in the moist lining (mucosae) of the mouth, nose, or, less commonly, the genitals.Ībout a third of people with SLE develop kidney disease (nephritis). Petechiae are caused by a shortage of cells involved in clotting (platelets), which leads to bleeding under the skin. Other skin problems that may occur in SLE include calcium deposits under the skin (calcinosis), damaged blood vessels (vasculitis) in the skin, and tiny red spots called petechiae. The rash, which generally does not hurt or itch, often appears or becomes more pronounced when exposed to sunlight. A characteristic feature is a flat red rash across the cheeks and bridge of the nose, called a "butterfly rash" because of its shape. Most affected individuals also have joint pain, typically affecting the same joints on both sides of the body, and muscle pain and weakness. SLE may first appear as extreme tiredness (fatigue), a vague feeling of discomfort or illness (malaise), fever, loss of appetite, and weight loss. SLE is one of a large group of conditions called autoimmune disorders that occur when the immune system attacks the body's own tissues and organs. The signs and symptoms of SLE vary among affected individuals, and can involve many organs and systems, including the skin, joints, kidneys, lungs, central nervous system, and blood-forming (hematopoietic) system.
